Word power for women in business

Holiday Greetings from a Homogeneous Society

Posted in: Women In Business

"Human Resources Minister Diane Finley was cast in the role of Grinch over a report that Service Canada offices in Quebec have been told they're not allowed to hang Christmas lights or decorations, lest they offend those who don't celebrate the holiday."

Well, I think the world has gone mad. December 25th is a national holiday becauseit's" Christmas. We have the Christmas holidays to thank for the winter break and family time. I'm never offended when wished a Merry Christmas instead of the politically correct, "Happy Holidays" and I rather enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas time.

Diane Finley has taken politically correct to political satire by restricting Christmas decorations. When the day comes that we cow tow to the few unreasonably radical minds that say down with Christmas decor that will be the day the floodgates open with a big welcome sign to religious annihilation. I say raise the bar on decorations, hang the mistletoe, fill the hallways with the gorgeous splendor of pine and gold and candy canes and I'm not even Catholic. I'll live through it with my self esteem unaffected and love for my fellow human being intact.

Hey, while we're at it, why stop at banning decorations?  Let the government next decide to send non-Catholics to work while those who celebrate get the day off. Or why not ban public displays and celebrations of Christmas altogether.  I don't deck my halls with boughs of holly, falalalalalalala but I would never suggest that a public environment remove theirs. When I see Christmas decorations I'm not running to convert to Catholicism but I do feel the warmth of a bright and festive atmosphere in addition to public spaces.

One thing I know for sure; I don't want to live in a homogeneous society where freedom of religion is forfeited for the sake of not hurting anyone's feelings.

The Diversity Theorem:

"Groups of people from

anywhere in the world

mixed together in any

\numbers and propor-

tions whatsoever,

will eventually settle

down as a harmonious

society, appreciating-

nay, celebrating!

their differences...

which will of course

soon disappear entirely."
