MiBism 023: Just Say Yes

Today, as I sit down to write this, the sky is that particular shade of heavenly blue that can't be matched and dyed into the richest of fabric or spray painted onto the metal of luxury cars with quite the same connection to nature. The shine from the sunlight behind me adds a surreal brightness to everything below it. The grass glistens with sun bouncing off droplets of dew and all of this serves to fill my spirit with a general feeling of yes today.

While the winter was gentle this year, it was untypically long. With the clarity of clear blue skies and bright sunny weather and yes, even the cool breeze that blows a slight chill through our bodies today as we cycle, run or walk our dogs before heading out to work, I am feeling yes.

Let's face it, it's mid-May and we had snow this month. Thursday's storm that left many (including myself) without power also managed to create havoc in my backyard. The winds tangled Hydro wires, cable and Bell wires through my beloved 50 year old tree in full bloom and yanked my Hydro meter right off its support on the brick wall of my house. This freak accident that killed my tree and left live wires grounded also put me in a potential life and death situation. Yellow danger tape, firemen, 5 separate visits from Hydro and an electrician made it resoundingly clear, had those wires moved a mere inch in any direction, my house, my self and my dog would have fried. So yes, oh yes, I am feeling an enormous, appreciative, move-into-action kind of yes today.

Yes to taking risk that will push me toward pitching and making proposals to powerful publishing houses and national magazines.

Yes to taking my kitchen one step closer to green.

Yes to spending more time face to face with the people in my life who have taken a back seat to my very full days. Life is much too short to not connect on a real (in person) and not virtual (Facebook) level.

Yes to letting the dust settle on the armoires and desktops as I work toward my goals.

Yes to completing the contracts that have no clear deadlines but sit in my lap waiting to be done and delivered.

Yes to reading novels and stories that take me to faraway places that I dream of going to in my own lifetime.

Yes to giving myself whatever it is I need to fill me up and complete me.

Yes to accepting that it is not selfish to make one's own self happy.

Yes to decluttering (yet again) since, as a family of five somehow unnecessary stuff and outgrown clothing accumulates and makes our house seem smaller than it really is.

Yes to spending more time washing, peeling, cutting, dicing and julienning fresh vegetables. While I don't enjoy preparing these, I do love serving fresh, whole foods at dinner and my family really enjoys eating them.

Yes to everything that settles into my bones as ayes. No to demands on my time, no challenges to my core beliefs, no to spending foolishly, no to whatever feels like no when it shows up.

What's your yes for today?
